		<description>Handcrafted porcelain vase
Designer, Fabricator
Collaborators: HM Nugent, Jim Termeer, Max Reinhardt

TRADED, is a handcrafted porcelain vase that calls attention to the interchange between some of the world’s major exporters and importers of raw goods. Each end of the vase is able to be open for import or export or cut off from trade entirely. Designed for show at the Salone Milan Furniture Fair 2011, this piece evaluates the basic mechanics of our world economic system through the familiar material of porcelain.

HEAR IN PLAIN SIGHT
A table is a place where two ends converge yet it far exceeds its physical purpose. It is a place to break literal bread yes, but it is also a place to gather-- where stories are heard for the first time, and then handed on.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1.png" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_o.png" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch2.png" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch2_o.png" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch3.png" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_etch3_o.png" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_set.png" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_1_set_o.png" align="left" /&#62; &#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_stool.png" border="0" width="670" height="387" width_o="865" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/126554/1892605/aao-hear_stool_o.png" align="left" /&#62;

Illustrated on this table surface is the story of the Asante Golden stool. Ghanaians believe that the High Priest, Okomfo Anokye conjured the stool, gilded in pure gold, to fall from heaven. It is a symbol of the unification of the Asante kingdom by chief Osei-tutu.

These spoken histories serve as a reminder of who I am as a Ghanaian-American. Each story contributes to a collective memory inscribed into the hearts Ghanaians no matter where they may live. My work examines the role of messaging, perception, and the potential to misread intention behind culturally relevant ideologies and practices.</description>
